Acne can be effectively treated with our intellibrite IPL system or in combination with other clinical treatments. IPL treatments can reduce the number and severity of active lesions, therefore reducing the inflammation and frequency of potential break-outs.
In 2003 clinical trials were conducted and they showed that a number of machines utilising light for the treatment of active acne received FDA (Food and Drugs Administration) approval. The two main approaches which are being used and evaluated clinically are:
Virtually everyone can be treated, apart from very dark skinned or tanned individuals. We do not recommend pregnant females or those taking Roaccutane (an acne medication) to undergo IPL treatment.
The side effects experienced with the Intellibrite IPL System are minimal. The treated area can become red and swollen after treatment but this will disappear within a couple of hours. Very rarely a small number of patients may experience lightening or darkening of skin but this usually resolves.
Typical the number of treatments which are necessary varies from person to person, but usually 6 IPL and 6 exfoliating treatments will result in a significant improvement.
A session will take approximately 30 minutes, although this may vary depending on the size of the area treated. IPL treatment may be combined with glycolic acid facial peels or microdermabrasion for maximum results. We hope to bring facial peels and microdermabrasion to The Hannah Clinic.
